The glare of the senses, so famous in Morocco, begins by Tangier: see the motley crowd, the colors of the species and the fruit; listen to the full of life and noise shows and feel embalmed markets.

According to Greek mythology, Hercules rested in these caves after having carried out one of his 12 prowess, catch the apples of Hesperides gold. These natural formations would, according to legend, served to make grinding of grain.

Natural curiosity: the caves of Hercules offer an opening to the ocean from a natural window, whose drawing surprisingly reproduces the figure of Africa.

Since ancient times, the Phoenicians and the Romans occurred in Tangerine soil. Proof of this are the many Phoenician and Roman tombs that can be visited in the Marshan cliff.

Located 10 Km from Tangier, Cape Malabata offers a splendid landscape. In this place are the Mediterranean with the Atlantic and said that the waves there has two colors…

A little further is the Castle Malabata, an architectural marvel of medieval-style, that is worth knowing.

Situated 14 Km from Tangier, Cape Spartel was erected at the end of the 19th. Also, magical place where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, Cape Spartel offers splendid views over the magnificent cliffs of Gibraltar.

The Grand Bazaar is located at the entrance of the medina. There is the former residence of the Mendoub, representative of the Sultan. The great Bazaar also housed the Embassy of Germany in the 1940s. Today hosts a splendid trees adorned Garden Court, testimony of these historic sites.

The small Bazaar, is the heart of medicine. In this neighborhood, full of history, stands a large mosque built in the 18th century on the ruins of an old Portuguese Cathedral.

Built in the high point of the medina, the kasbah dominates the harbour and the city.

Fortified in Roman times, the Kasbah was used as main residence of Sultan in 1684, until that was burned by the British. Today, you can admire the Palace of the Sultan, Dar El Maghzen, the Museum of Moroccan arts and the Museum of Antiquities, Dar El Ghorfa, which displays the prehistoric and ancient vestiges of Tangier.

Magical place that overlooks the sea, the Hafa Café offers an impressive view over the Strait, the city and its puerto…In this legendary coffee, which contributed to the legend of Tangiers, the great writers and artists in the world came at least once to taste tea with Mint.

Pass through the city and its ancient medina in search of myths that fascinated many artists and writers, such as Paul Bowles, Jean Genet, Paul Morand, Pasolini, Matisse or Delacroix…

In her Union with Charles II of England in 1661, the Portuguese Catherine of Braganza had contributed in his gilded Tangier.

After having expelled religious orders and the Jewish community, the British withdrew from the city in 1684, having previously destroyed the kasbah.

Since then, the Alautía dynasty Sultan Moulay Ismaïl undertook the rebuilding of the city. In 1800, Tangier became an international city that housed the consuls of the leading Western Nations: England, Spain, Belgium, Holland, United States, Portugal, Union Soviet, France, and Italy. In 1923, the city became an international zone.

In 1947, Tangier hosted the first speech by Sultan Mohammed V as a prelude of the unification of Morocco and its independence in 1956. Today, Tangier still fascinates. The city of the Strait inspired several global celebrities: painters, musicians, writers, poets, filmmakers, actors, millonarios…tales such as Delacroix, Saint-Saëns, Pierre Loti, Matisse, Van Dongen, Tennessee Williams, Paul Morand, Jean Genet, William Borroughs, Paul Bowles, Malcolm Forbes, Elisabeth Taylor…

The famous journalist Joseph Kessel also paid tribute to the city, published in 1952, a prominent “Au Grand Socco” book.

Perhaps the most ancient city of Morocco is Tangier. Since the year 1600 BC, the Phoenicians installed there his colony.

Roman mythology associated with the founding of Tangier with the Greek giant Antaeus, son of Poseidon, sea Dios and Gaia, the earth goddess. During a match, Heracles killed Antaeus and married Tingis, the widow of the giant gave him a son Sufax.

Later, Hercules separated Spain of Africa and gave his son Sufax a city protected by the sea. Become King, Sufax named their city Tingis.

From yesteryear, Tangier occupied a strategic location, due to their dominance over the Strait of Gibraltar. The Roman Empire, which controlled the town until 429, became the capital of their province of North Africa. In the year 706, the Arabs appropriated Tangier, which became from that moment the core of the conflict between dynasties until the end of the 13th century Arab and Berber tribes.

Since the year 1300, Tangier played an important role in Mediterranean trade.

In 1437, Tangier was conquered by the Portuguese before becoming again by the Arabs in the year 1471. In 1578, it passed under the Spanish domain and returned to being conquered by the Portuguese in 1640.
During his reign, the Portuguese built there magnificent residences, Dominican and Franciscan chapels, as well as a cathedral.

To cross the border of Mauritania visa is required without exception. To get it will need a passport valid for at least six months after the date of entry into the country, two passport photos and fill in the form of visa. The visa must be requested well in the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in Madrid or the Consulate General of the RIM in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Quintana Street, n º 14 – Ciudad Jardin – 35 005 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – Telefs.: 928/23.48.33 and 928/23.45.00 – Fax: 928/29.31.66). You can also get at the border for a price of around 60 euros.

* Algeria

The Algerian authorities also require visas. The consular fee charged for issuing visas for tourists is around 25 Euros (for employers and employees of Spanish companies have superior consular fees). You must have a passport with a minimum of six months of operation, complete the form and two passport size photographs. The embassy is on the streets of Madrid General Oraá 12 and there is a consulate in the Eusebio Sempere Calle Alicante 14.

* Libya

As for Libya, a visa is required for entry into the country. Visas must be obtained from the Libyan embassy in Madrid. It is advisable that the visa application is submitted with at least twenty days before the scheduled date for the trip and also must pay the “reasonable” price of 50 euros. Also, get the facts at the embassy because people are not as good Gadaffi friends of the Western tourists and their travel agencies and tourist visas are usually denied for trips that have not been contracted with a travel agency in Libya.

Furthermore, since 15 August, the Libyan authorities in the border require the accreditation of financial means – at least 500 Libyan dinars or its equivalent in euros, 300 – for all those wishing to enter the country unless: you are a tourist who has come by agency and covered all expenses for the stay come on official duty; you are a trainee with student visa, “Erasmus in Tripoli? Absolutely! With two lame … -, official invitations, or family reunification or visiting a resident in Libya, provided you like to be the friend pivot, because it must state that takes care of the expenses of stay and medical care

For processing, you need the passport and four photographs of passport size and format, equally between them and without much difference with the passport (since I have no more than when I was 18). Ratilla not be valid because they are not color copies. Also need a certified translation of your passport (visa included in price). We must also fill out the form supplied by the Libyan embassy in Madrid.

The culture and traditions of the Maghreb open their doors to you. Although, as you can see, some you have to give it more oil than others.
